Project Report | Nov 13, 2018
EL ANO CASI TERMINA Y MIRAMOS ATRAS CON ALEGRIA / THE YEAR IS ALMOST OVER AND WE LOOK BACK WITH JOY

By Martha Robles | Project Leader

English versión below

English Version

At the end of each year it’s impossible not to look back and think about the work done and the impact achieved. 2018 has been a wonderful year, full of new experiences and achievements and although we know that we still have a long way to go towards eradicating the myths about people with intellectual disabilities, we are proud of the contribution we are making, thanks to those who support this cause.

This year we participated in the accompaniment of 150 official schools in the city of Barranquilla in which we trained 270 young people as inclusion promoters and 8,000 children participated in the workshops through our program "NoHay2Iguales"

We received more than 160 posters from school children participating in the contest we did. They told us how to make their school a more inclusive place and we received fantastic testimonies of what we are achieving with this strategy.

Our training sessions had the participation of 650 teachers and agents of early childhood and more than 100 families of children with disabilities.

2 awareness campaigns were implemented in the bus service stations and a forum was our contribution in 2018 to the right to mobility of people with disabilities in Barranquilla, and of course we continue to break myths in multiple public spaces and events with the distribution of 6,000 copies of the book” It´s a myth and I do not allow it”.

We are excited waiting for next year. With the resources obtained we will print and distribute welcome kits for new parents of children with Down syndrome in kindergartens and hospitals and of course our great challenge in 2019 will be the 5th IberoAmerican Congress on Down Syndrome that we will be carrying out on the 29th and 30th April in Cartagena de Indias and with which we hope to have a memorable impact.

Thank you very much to those who accompanied us during this year to continue transforming lives.
