Summary

We are excited to embark on a new adventure! In order to strengthen our ongoing commitment to grow human capital and eradicate poverty, we have become Street Business School (SBS) certified. This has enabled us add entrepreneurial education to our existing services. SI4DEV is currently the only SBS global catalyst partner in Nigeria!

Challenge

Nigeria is home to the largest percentage of poor people in the world! (World Poverty Clock - March 2018). This is an indicator of extreme poverty and hunger, poor health, low income due to low productivity, and poor economic growth. In 2018/2019, SI4DEV successfully carried out three (3) grant-funded activities which promoted economic independence and entrepreneurship in three Nigeria communities. With data from pilot projects, we understood that we needed an entrepreneurial education program.

Solution

Our expertise with the SBS curriculum will help eradicate poverty and promote community-led action towards meeting sustainable development goals at the grassroots level. SBS by SI4DEV is designed to serve the local participants by equipping them with the right skills and knowledge and igniting a structured entrepreneurial mindset. They become self-reliant through the newly acquired skills and can enhance their life prospects and contribute substantially to economic development in the community.

Long-Term Impact

With entrepreneurial skills, participants learn how to identify a problem and implement a solution. Their businesses become strongly resilient to withstand the challenges facing enterprises. Successful participants will use acquired knowledge and skills to maximize profit, seek capital, and prioritize any loan repayment. They will immediately be able to apply the knowledge gained from the training in starting or scaling a business. They can join a cooperative to help them sustain their business.
