Build School for 80 Students in Arid Kachuru Kenya

By Lucy Mathenge | Project Assistant

It’s now end of second term for our schools and we are happy that despite very many challenges in the country, all has been well in our schools and the students.  The progress in Kachiuru was good and the school management did their best to ensure that the term was successful.  I had the opportunity to visit the school in June 2017 during official opening of community dispensary which together with our partners and well-wishers supported in construction and furnishing.  The dispensary is constructed in the Kachiuru school compound and managed by the school committee we are proud of this achievement as the community can now access the health services near them.  During the visit together with the team we had an opportunity to meet with the school management committee and discussed achievements, challenges and way forward.

We learnt that the school is yet to receive any support from the county government or any other body towards latrine repair.  They had been given promises but they are concerned that this has been there without any action especially during these campaigns period.   They continue to appeal to well-wishers to support them towards this issue.   The school management is also working hard towards fundraising for a classroom construction but it has been very difficult since the area has been extremely dry this year and last year and many parents have migrated with their livestock in search of greener pastures.  The few families left cannot raise any funds at the moment due to the hardship in the area.  We hope that the situation will improve and the community will be able to earn some income at least to support their own families.  We appreciate the kind support given by our partners and well-wishers towards the Kachiuru community.
