We've been expanding our water initiatives to the US! In the past 2 years, we have been partnering with urban farms throughout the US to supply them with safe, decentralized water to use for irrigation and produce washing! We have completed 3 projects so far, with a 4th coming up in just a few weeks! We are looking to fund a 5th US project so we can continue to supply water infrastructure to urban farms so they can better serve their communities with amazing fruits and veggies.
Urban farms play a vital role in the food system by growing fresh food for their communities that often lack access to nutrient-dense foods like fruits and veggies. However, many of these farms lack water infrastructure. This means they have to spend precious time, money, and energy to make sure their crops receive proper irrigation. It also means they often have to go off-site to wash and prepare their produce to be sold, taking up even more time and energy.
Supplying urban farms with water infrastructure that produces safe, reliable, decentralized water means that they can spend more time, money, energy, and resources on growing fresh, amazing produce for their community! This provides communities that often lack access to affordable, fresh produce with a local food resource that not only offers nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables but also education, gathering spots, beauty, and a sense of community pride.
The long-term impact of this project will be multifaceted. Due to reduced costs and time constraints, more food will be able to be grown and distributed to those who lack access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables in the immediate future. This will serve hundreds of individuals in the long term yearly with food access, education, inspiration, and a place for community gatherings.
