The Teenage Mothers Vocational Training Center (TMVTC) is a proposed initiative aimed at empowering teenage mothers in Kampungu, Kalisizo, Uganda. The center will provide vocational skills training, information sharing, and economic empowerment programs to help young mothers rebuild their lives. Key activities will include tailoring, entrepreneurship training, and information-sharing sessions on reproductive health, financial literacy and child care.
Teenage pregnancy is a significant challenge in Uganda. In rural areas many teenage mothers drop out of school due to stigma, financial constraints, and lack of childcare support, leaving them without education, or employment opportunities. This leads to increased poverty levels, dependency on men, and exposure to gender-based violence. Many young mothers lack access to reproductive health education and economic independence, limiting their ability to provide for themselves and their children.
At least 100 teenage mothers trained annually in vocational skills. This will ensure reduced dependency on financial handouts through self-employment and micro-enterprise development in the area. Through knowledge sharing and trianing on reproductive health, there will be improved reproductive health knowledge leading to fewer repeat pregnancies. A sustainable community-based training centerwil be established that will continue to empower young mothers for years to come.
The Teenage Mothers Vocational Training Center will transform lives by breaking the cycle of poverty and dependency among young mothers in Kampungu, Kalisizo. The skills gained will provide them with sustainable livelihoods, allowing them to support their children and contribute to community development. Over time, the project will reduce the prevalence of teenage pregnancies and empower more young women to become independent, productive members of society.
