High population density and limited water infrastructure have caused severe water shortages across informal camps in the Afrin area. To protect displaced families from water distress, BESME INSANI launched an emergency water trucking campaign. Over two weeks, our logistical team delivered 300,000 liters of safe, chlorinated drinking water to 1,000 displaced families, supporting approximately 5,000 individuals.
Many households had been forced to restrict daily water intake due to the high cost of commercial water trucks. Our emergency intervention provided free daily water allocations directly to registered families, ensuring adequate supplies for drinking, cooking, and household hygiene needs.
Operations were executed efficiently using sanitized water tankers equipped with long delivery hoses to fill household tanks directly. Field monitors worked alongside local camp leaders to verify recipient lists, giving priority access to widows, elderly individuals, and persons with special needs.
Providing safe, free drinking water protects public health while easing household financial stress. BESME INSANI continues to monitor water availability across Syrian displacement camps, working to expand WASH interventions and provide dignified humanitarian support.
