Rapid population growth and depleted local water resources have created severe water stress across informal displacement centers in the Afrin region. To protect vulnerable households from extreme water scarcity, BESME INSANI implemented a targeted emergency water trucking campaign. Over a two-week field cycle, our team delivered 300,000 liters of clean, chlorinated drinking water to 1,000 displaced households, supporting approximately 5,000 individuals.
Many families residing in makeshift shelters had been severely limiting their daily water consumption due to prohibitive prices charged by private commercial tankers. Through our emergency WASH intervention, families received daily allocations of safe water for drinking, cooking, and essential domestic hygiene, restoring basic living standards in the camps.
Field logistics were managed seamlessly from start to finish. Our logistics unit deployed a fleet of sanitized water tankers equipped with high-pressure hoses to fill household storage units efficiently and safely. Field monitors verified recipient lists in collaboration with local camp committees, ensuring priority access for widows, orphans, and persons with disabilities.
The provision of free, purified water provides an essential health barrier against contagious diseases while saving families scarce financial resources. BESME INSANI continues to monitor water stress levels across Syrian displacement camps, striving to maintain stable and dignified emergency water services for all communities in need.
