The MasPorTIC Foundation was born to boost the digital transformation across rural areas in Colombia. Through this project, 300 small farmers in the village of Noruega Berdum (Cundinamarca/Colombia) will have access to specialized knowledge, technological resources, technical training and information to improve their quality of life. Also, 10 rural young leaders, will receive digital literacy training to spread knowledge in their regions and increase the outreach of the project.
The time for digital transformation in agriculture is now. Rural life doesn't offer opportunities for youth leaving the countryside. Farmers are forced to sell at unfair prices and they don't have access to technological resources to be more efficient, increasing poverty in the rural area. Traditional ways for reaching them are too expensive, and the use of technology is not yet possible due to the digital divide. Then, large agricultural companies have a greater advantage over them.
We will provide a hybrid solution that combines digital literacy training to empower 10 rural young leaders, who will then replicate this knowledge in their respective regions helping 300 small farmers. With this, they will find pre-installed technical training content and connect with agricultural specialists as well as consultants who can provide real-time technical assistance so they can sell at a better price, improve the performance of their crops and find fairer prices in the market.
This project is replicable across all Colombian regions so more farmers can benefit. Our goal is to increase productivity in agriculture and multiply the opportunities in the Colombian countryside. This, through the democratization of knowledge, retention of young talent across rural areas, and providing the opportunity to receive income from digital literacy services, will result in their respective regions become self-sustainable. "CultivoRed" will be the main agricultural knowledge platform.
