CSA believes that every orphan child must be nurtured till he/she grows up to be a happy and contributing member of society. However for children living in orphanages, it is a date, which most of them dread, because after this date whatever shelter they have at an orphanage is withdrawn. Children have to leave orphanages once they turn 18 years; in many cases this happens even earlier. The children then step out into the complex web of the outside world, having no clue whatsoever as to how to navigate through. Some of the girls are married off, while the boys get pushed into daily wages type of livelihoods. It is not surprising that many children stumble in this transition and fall back into cycle of exploitation, poverty and broken families.
To address this need, CSA has created a Bridge to Livelihood Program. As the time to leave the orphanage approaches, we work with the child, and a career counsellor to create an exit plan for the child. After the age of 18, we facilitate either higher education or livelihood training linked to job opportunities. With this objective, CSA has partnered with many training/skilling centres and educational institutes so that the children have a good variety of options available to them. Apart from training course, the children require some financial support and mentoring till they are in a job and a stable situation.
We would like to share 2 success stories that would surely inspire you in life;
Shrikrishna from Mumbai:
Shrikrishna is a complete orphan & has no body in his family to look after him. He was in the Government Children Home. He was always an average student. When CSA met him he had already completed his 18 years of age.
CSA admitted him for 2 months training in to ICICI Academy of skill development. He has always been a very sincere student, CSA provided him accommodation for 6 months. After completion of his course he immediately got selected with an A/C repairing company. CSA happily took him for shopping made him job ready with aftercare kit. CSA also provided a cycle to travel from station to home as he stay really far from the railway station.
He is truly a very hard working child, the day he completed his 1 year and got raise in his salary, he gave lunch party to the other children in the orphanage also invited CSA staff and shared his happiness.
Akansha from Katni:
Akansha is an orphan child from Little Star Foundation, Katni. She completing her education from State academy-Horse Riding Bhopal. She was having keen interest in learning horse riding and considering her interest, CSA supported her for Horse Riding training along with necessary material and mentoring support.
