As part of our WASH program to improve menstrual hygiene management in Kenya, Peace Winds Japan has launched a “sexual reproductive health” (SRH) project in an effort to prevent early pregnancies.
Since 2020 schools have been reporting a high number of dropouts among female students due to early marriage/teenage pregnancy in the Kakuma refugee camp and the Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement. In light of this situation, we have trained several female students as “peer champions” to become leaders in the prevention of teenage pregnancies in schools and the wider community.
Currently, we are working with them to ensure the right messages in SRH are passed on.
In October we held a “Peer Champions festival” and below are the key points of the event.
