Spring is passing and summer is just around the corner at the green belt 1km along the Tsurumi-River ,Tsunashima, Kohoku-ku, Yokohama, Japan.
This is our second year of receiving assist from you for our restoration project at the Tsurumi river green belt.
At this area , we have been carrying out works to restore a native river side plant community of Ogi (a species of grass called Amur silver grass) through assisting their restoration by replanting small new stocks of the plant and thereafter sustainably displacing an invading foreign allergy causing grass species ( rat rye grass) during winter-spring , and also an invading climbing plant species called bur cucumber ( Aretiuri in Japanese, Sycyous sp.) during summer-autumn.
Our spring work that clears surrounding space of each stock of Ogi from the invading winter grass with the help of company volunteers began 22th April and continued thereafter has resulted significant decrease of rye grass and marked growth of Ogi community.
Now at the middle of June , the flower season of the rye grass that has caused a severe pollen allergy among visitors and neaby residents is almost over and our place has just entered a yearly monsoon rainy season.
We hope comming beneficial rains will help the Ogi community thrive more vigorously during the season before we begin a harder summer-tending work displacing the vicious invading summer climbing plant ( bur cusumber) during the hot summer sunny days.
