Do you have an unused bike in your shed? Maybe it could be better used in Africa where the humble bike becomes a useful tool for development. We take unwanted bikes from the UK and we send them to seven projects in six countries in Africa (Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia). The bikes support a variety of people, all of whom are vulnerable in different ways. Our partners target groups such as disabled people, street children, trafficked children and rural families.
Transport and development go hand-in-hand; public transport is be prohibitively expensive for the majority of people in Africa and on average a person in Africa spends up to four hours a day just getting to school and gathering food or water. By giving people bicycles, your donation will enable them to get to school, fetch water, earn an income and genuinely enhance their quality of life and prospects.
Cheap and sustainable transport helps those enduring chronic poverty. It makes every aspect of life easier and supports people in their day-to-day activities and income generating work.
Most of our partners sell some of the bikes we send to generate an income for their direct beneficiairies. This ensures that their projects become sustainable.
