Summary

Many low-income communities in rural Nepal lack reliable access to safe water and proper washing facilities. This project will install 21 deep bore-well water systems with pumps, storage tanks, drinking taps, handwashing and ablution points, and safe drainage. The systems will serve at least 4200 people and will be accessible without discrimination. Each site will be selected through a local needs assessment, and the water will be tested for safety and quality.

Challenge

Many rural communities in Nepal still lack reliable access to safe and sufficient water. Families often depend on distant, shallow, seasonal, or potentially contaminated sources for drinking and daily household needs. Schools, mosques, and community centers may also lack proper drinking-water points, handwashing areas, and ablution facilities. This situation places an additional burden on women, children, elderly people, and low-income families.

Solution

he project will install deep bore-well water systems in carefully selected underserved communities. Each system may include a bore well, water pump, storage tank, drinking taps, handwashing and ablution facilities, a concrete platform, and proper drainage. Project locations will be selected through local needs assessments and community consultation. Local caretakers will also be identified to monitor the system and support basic maintenance.

Long-Term Impact

Reliable access to water will improve hygiene, reduce exposure to water-related illnesses, and save valuable time for families. Children will have more time for education, while adults can focus on work and household responsibilities. Proper washing and ablution facilities will improve cleanliness and dignity in community spaces. Local monitoring, maintenance arrangements, and periodic follow-up will help ensure that each water system remains functional for many years.
