Project Report | Oct 2, 2026
Community Resilience and Fundraising Outlook

By Mohammed Tahir | Project Lead

The Jamestown community centre project, which we call 'Bigger Than Me ', began with a simple conviction: that the young people of Jamestown deserve a permanent, well-maintained space that belongs to them. That conviction has not changed.

Throughout this reporting period, the Jamestown centre has continued to serve as the operational base for DUNK Grassroots' community programming. Despite the absence of new capital funding, the space has remained active, hosting coaching sessions, life skills workshops, and community gatherings that are the daily fabric of what DUNK does. The building continues to stand as a reference point for the neighbourhood, and the young people who use it do not wait for restoration to be complete before showing up.

This matters because it tells us something important: the community's relationship with the space is not contingent on its condition. They are here already. The restoration is about honouring that presence with a space that reflects what it means to them, not about creating demand that does not exist.

Honest Account

During this reporting period, the Bigger Than Me campaign did not receive new donor contributions. We want to be straightforward about this: the fundraising window was a quiet one, and we did not achieve the outreach momentum we had hoped for.

This was not a reflection of reduced need or reduced commitment. The DUNK Grassroots team has been managing an unusually intensive period of programme delivery. The honest truth is that our communications capacity for donor outreach during this window was limited, and the campaign reflected that.

We take responsibility for this gap. Our 12 existing donors invested in this project and in this community, and they deserve a team that is as consistent in its fundraising as it is in its programme delivery. That is a standard we intend to meet in the next quarter.

A word to our donors.

To the twelve people who have already given to Bigger Than Me — thank you. Your contributions are not sitting idle. Every dollar raised has been accounted for and is earmarked for the restoration work ahead. The fact that we did not raise additional funds this quarter does not diminish what you gave or what it will make possible.

You chose to invest in a community that most donors never hear about,a historic neighbourhood in Jamestown -Accra whose young people have been showing up, against the odds, for years. That choice matters to us and to them.
