Bigger Than Me

The Story

In the heart of Jamestown, one of Accra's oldest coastal neighbourhoods, there is a boy named Kofi. Every morning before school, Kofi would pass by the community centre and glance at the basketball hoop, the one that had been broken for months. He would pause, just for a second, then keep walking. Last week, Kofi didn't keep walking. He stopped, picked up a ball, and scored. Because of you, our 12 incredible donors, the hoop is fixed, and Kofi is back on the court where he belongs.

The Impact

Your generosity has raised $515, and we have put every dollar to work. The basketball hoop at the Jamestown Community Centre, the heartbeat of DUNK's daily programmes, has been restored. We have also transformed the walls with vibrant paintings and community artwork that reflect the culture and heritage. When children walk in now, they see themselves in those walls. They see that this space was made for them. Over 300 girls and boys pass through this community centre every week for sports, after-school education, and life skills, and now they do it in a space that truly feels like theirs.

The Call Forward

We are 15% of the way to our $3,450 goal, and the momentum is real. Still ahead: repairing windows, fixing the roof over our library, and installing new basketball poles for the playground. Each of these is a small investment with an enormous return in confidence, in safety, in community.
