On behalf of Street Children Empowerment Organization for developing Country, I want to thank you for standing by us even in this moment of trying times all over the world.
All schools re-open on October 14th and 28th in the Gambia and we are happy to let you know that all our children return back to school health and sound mind with the exception of Aminata Williams who was in the 10 th Grade at the Glory Baptist School.
On the second week of November when our team visited the school to do spot check to confirm all supporting students are in school, they were informed she had not reported. The school register was checked to confirm this. The team visited her house to find out she was pregnant.
It was an unfortunate situation as the family hid this from us during our last visit to their home before school resume. As a child of age 15, we thought we should inform the police but the family stopped us from doing that as they are in touch with the family of the man who impregnated Aminata. Also, they said the girl threatened to take her own life if the matter is reported to the police.
At present she is going through a counselling class with our team whiles we also having a family life centered discussion with the parent.
Meanwhile on march 16th 2021 we have all the girls tested for pregnancy and other related diseases as well as the boys. They are all doing pretty good and in good shape.
We planned resuming all field work on the 1st September 2021.
Our food distribution during the lock down went very well and was deeply appreciated by families and they all express their gratitude to each and everyone of you contributing to their wellbeing.
Thank you once more to every one of you who continues to stand by us especially in this time when the whole world is in need. Your support is pushing our mission forward.
Best regards
