The Covid19 pandemic is affecting almost everybody worldwide, but it impacts the poor especially hard. Now, in March 2020 in Guatemala, with travel and business activity severely restricted, both formal and informal employment has been curtailed. Many of our scholars' families are already having trouble purchasing food and meeting other basic expenses. 100% of money raised through this GG fund drive will go directly to families. Even small donations can make a big difference to a family!
Covid19 will affect all facets of life in Guatemala, above all economically. We expect that over 90% of our families will be in need of assistance during this crisis, and that over 60% will have needs that are critical.
Funds will be used for basic food stables, cleaning supplies, eco-filter water purification system (clean water is very important), and/or medicine. Each family has been vetted through our scholarship application process. Needs and donations will be determined on a case by case basis to insure that critical needs are met.
Without this aid, our families will be forced to survive in any way they can, for example by taking out high-interest loans or selling property, making their long-term prospects of leaving the cycle of poverty even dimmer.
