Following the success of our Bamboo Workshop campaign, this project provides seed funding for developing our Social Enterprise to promote and sell our unique bamboo bikes, under the brand of "East Bali Bamboo Bikes": eastbalibamboobikes.com. The funds will enable us to market our bikes and establish more professional resources for the team of local artisans at our East Bali workshop. This will lead to sustainable economic development and provide income sources independent of external donations
The Mount Agung volcano evacuations and recent return home of Desa Ban residents after 5 months makes the success our social enterprise even more important by creating jobs for our youth to help rebuild family livelihoods. Now that our bamboo bike team have resumed full production in a new workshop 15km north of the volcano we need to generate demand for bamboo bikes domestically and internationally to create profits that will enable us to expand our facilities and create more jobs.
We will purchase more tools and equipment so our local team can build more high quality bikes; and create demand and a growing market for our bikes by promoting at exhibitions and fairs, through our new website, on social media and by satisfied customer testimonials.Higher sales will generate more profits, enabling creation of more jobs and more sustainable livelihoods opportunities for present and future generations with a local industry which will generate local supporting businesses.
The growing demand for our Bamboo Bikes will enable outsourcing of bamboo components and frames to locals in the 6 most isolated hamlets of our village, leading to the growth of sustainable home industries to benefit more than 100 youth and their families. The publicity and curiosity generated by the idea of bamboo bikes will attract potential buyers and other visitors and inspire local entrepreneurs to open arts/crafts and other businesses, creating jobs and driving economic development.
