My name is Daniel Carolan and I’m the new Development Associate for 3 Generations. I want to personally thank you for your recurring donations to the Ayni Relief Fund. I am excited to share with you this recent photo along with a message from Puma Quispe, the indeginous community leader in Chinchero, Peru.

3 Generations is committed to indigenous peoples and their struggles to protect their communities, lands and traditions. When the pandemic struck the indigenous communities in Chinchero Peru, 3 Generations responded by creating the Ayni Relief Fund to help support their needs within the community. We are happy to give you an update on the situation from community leader Puma Quispe:

Dear Global Family, our children have benefited so much from all your donations. We have built the school center where children will have access to alternative education online that was discovered in these covid times and they will learn English and other cultural traditions from online books. We have the venue ready and the equipment now and we are in the finishing process. We need to finish the toilets and the electricity is being installed. Hundreds of children will benefit from it and we have also supported our elders with clothing and with food as labor is not fully activated yet. The day to day work is not enough to support the families because of the pandemic and the political crisis in Peru. We need help for women specially to start small businesses that can become sustainable ways of income for the families. We are so grateful for all the support that comes from our Global family. May you be blessed a thousand times more.

 - Puma Quispe

Your support and solidarity has been critical for the people of Chinchero to continue to withstand and rebuild during this pandemic.

When the pandemic struck the indigenous communities in Chinchero Peru, 3 Generations  responded by creating the Ayni Relief Fund to help support their needs within the community. We are happy to give you an update on the situation from community leader Puma Quispe:

Dear Global family, Chinchero is reactivating after the Pandemic. Finally businesses are opening  up and more work opportunities are growing . As the main activity besides tourism is agriculture we are supporting many people with seeds. We are also providing bicycles for transportation. We are almost finished building the Community School and Internet Center that will be used by 200 students all year to access advanced education and to learn English.

The tourism industry is still very limited. Most of the people in our community are producing  potatoes and grains to be sold in the valleys and be exchanged with vegetables and fruits that come from lower altitudes. We are slowly bringing back prosperity and abundance to our homes. Much help is still needed for the health of our Elders and the education of our children that are still struggling from this pandemic.

Infinite Gratitude for your support. Global Ayni.

3 Generations is committed to indigenous peoples and their struggles to protect their communities, lands and traditions. It is one of the reasons that we recently held a Livestream Solstice Celebration.

As we in the Northern Hemisphere observe the summer solstice the people in the Southern Hemisphere celebrate the winter solstice. It is an important event for the Indigenous peoples of Peru. It is the shortest day of the year and the beginning of the Incan New Year. It is considered a time of rebirth and renewal. This year’s celebration is especially important given the recent hardships endured by the Chinchero indigenous community during the pandemic.

We were honored to be a part of the blessing and celebration ceremony of both the winter and summer solstices with Puma Quispe, Shaman and Community Leader in Chinchero, Peru. He was joined by Alex Stark, world renowned Feng Shui expert, and 3 Generations Board Chair Nadia Zilkha, Deeksha-giver.

Puma Quispe led a sunrise ceremony and blessing. The rite was incredibly special and moving. It was a fantastic way to usher in the summer or winter depending on where you live. You can watch it on our Facebook and YouTube channels.

3 Generations’ is committed to indigenous peoples and their struggles to protect their communities, lands and traditions. That is why we created the Ayni Relief Fund. We recently had the opportunity to speak with Puma Quispe and he updated us on how the relief effort in Chinchero is going.

Your support and solidarity has allowed the people of Chinchero to withstand the pandemic. The community continues to buy food and educational supplies for the village which is a great help to the vulnerable elders and children. WIFI has been set up throughout the village and now the district is in the process of building a Computer Center for the children to allow them to complete their education online.

The situation in Peru has improved and the country is slowly reopening. Tourism however is still at a standstill and the artisan craftspeople are unable to sell their products in their villages and markets. It will be a long difficult path of recovery for all the halted businesses and there will be many economic challenges for the people that live a day-by-day life.  The tourism Industry and jobs that are linked directly with artisan crafts have been greatly affected by COVID-19. The social distancing process is threatening thousands of families who have this as their main source of income. Our Chinchero community has been greatly affected as 60% of our village is Artisans and 95% of their sales is made possible by tourists.

So far, there haven’t been any vaccines available in Chinchero and the community will continue to be vulnerable to Covid-19 until they are.
