Auroville - Empower a regenerative Future

 Happy New Year 2026! 

Auroville has build a unique expertise in regenerating land in tropical conditions since 1968. The pioneers purchased large tracts of land from private landowners - for the lowest market rates. Incidentally this was land which was highly degraded, due to  deforestation and decades of overgrazing combined with sand storms, heavy monsun rains, and draught for 6 months per year.

The pioneers experimented with numerous approaches - planting pioneer trees, very extensive water conservation work, and local varieties of field crops incl dryland rice and millets. Growing vegetables was possible only in small pockets, due to constraints in availability of compost and water.

Today Auroville is a organic food producer, feeding the Auroville Community and beyond with a large range of produce: dairy, vegetables, poultry, grains. Further, food processing has  blossomed - benefitting from the international culinary expertise available here. 

Anshul Agrawal is a highly experienced organic farmer, and member of the managing team at AuroOrchard Farm. He expresses the core of Aurovilles Farmgroup`s approach regenerative agriculture.

Greetings from Auroville !

we have exciting news to share: Auroville`s regenerative farming experts are launching a first hybrid training module: 

A weekly morning course in "Market Gardening" , presented by Annapurna Farm, AuroOrchard, Buddha Garden and others is offered to all interested. 
This is the first in the course series on different aspects including integrating animals in farming, orchard design and management and an integral philosphy of food and agriculture.
The course is first  online, with an optional practical involvement in Aurovilles AuroOrchard farm in the later months. https://auroorchard.auroville.org/market-gardening/ 

The course starts in Nov and continues til March, contribution is on sliding scale.

The aim is to share the expertise in regenerative agriculture in the tropics, which is uniquely acquired over 50 years experience:  soil fertility, restoring biodiversity, sustainable water use etc. 

A second aim is to attract new volunteers and eventually young people to join Auroville`s farms as farm trainees and future Co-farmers.  

Auroville`s expertise in land regeneration is moving into a next phase - sharing its expertise widely and bringing together a large international community of students and supporters . 

Already Auroville is part of several big international networks: Global Ecovillage Network GEN and COFSA Conscious Food System Alliance, (part of UNDP) with Thomas Legrand, Andrew Bovarnick, as well as the "Namalwar Multiversity" and the recently founded network "Farmvarsities"  in India.
