From Self-Esteem to Summer Camp: A Season of Growt

By MARIA JOSE ORELLANA | DIRECTORA EJECUTIVA

At Hearts of Gold Foundation, we firmly believe that every child deserves the chance to dream, and that conviction drives everything we do.

This year has given us deeply inspiring moments: we've witnessed firsthand the joy, curiosity, and eagerness to grow in our children as they actively participate in our programs. Every smile reminds us why this work is so worthwhile.

Over these past months, the children have taken part in workshops focused on strengthening their self-esteem and confidence, along with art therapy sessions that have given them a safe space to express emotions, heal, and explore their creativity.

One moment we want to highlight is our summer camp (colonia vacacional), which welcomed 15 boys and girls for a full week of recreational, artistic, and educational activities. On Monday, they kicked things off with introductions and icebreakers, including a "This Is Me" activity, followed by team-building games like a blindfolded minefield challenge and team tic-tac-toe, wrapping up the day with an origami workshop. On Tuesday, they explored their creativity through clay sculpture and took part in group dynamics called "The Virus" and "The Shipwreck," continuing their clay work with an activity called "The Orchestra Conductor." Wednesday was dedicated to environmental awareness, with an introduction to caring for the planet, a "mystery box" activity, a planet assembly, an eco-bingo game, and crafts made from recycled materials. On Thursday, the children painted the clay figures they had created, enjoyed a dance workshop, and put together their own art gallery featuring their finished pieces. Friday closed out the week with a bracelet-making workshop and a scavenger hunt, followed by a farewell that included a signature yearbook, diploma ceremony, and closing conversation. Each day included a snack break and a closing moment together, giving the children the chance to bond as a community, strengthen friendships, and enjoy positive experiences outside the classroom, always accompanied by our team.

We also know that supporting a child means supporting their entire family. That's why parents and caregivers take part in psychological therapy sessions aimed at strengthening family bonds and building more stable, loving homes.

Our teenagers, meanwhile, have completed skills and aptitude assessments that are helping them shape their professional paths according to their own talents and interests.

Looking ahead, we have exciting things in store: our teens will soon receive a visit from a well-known local business leader, who will share his story and inspire them to dream big. And in the coming weeks, we'll be launching sexual education workshops, focused on prevention and empowering our young people to make informed decisions about their lives.

None of this would be possible without you. Heartfelt thanks to each of our volunteers for their time, dedication, and love for our children and teenagers.

Thanks to you, these children keep dreaming… and step by step, they're building a better future.
