Alkhidmat Flood Emergency Appeal 2025

Introduction

Since mid-August 2025, Northern Pakistan has been severely affected by a series of cloudbursts, floods, and glacier bursts, resulting in widespread destruction across Buner, Swat, Shangla, and Gilgit. Hundreds of families have lost their homes, agricultural lands, and livelihoods. Roads, bridges, and basic infrastructure have been washed away, leaving many communities cut off from essential services.

In response, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, with the support of local volunteers and international partners, immediately launched relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.

Emergency Relief & Rescue Activities

Search & Rescue:

• Alkhidmat’s trained volunteers worked day and night to evacuate families stranded by flash floods and landslides.

• Temporary safe shelters were established for displaced families.

Food Distribution:

• Thousands of ration packs were distributed, each containing flour, rice, pulses, sugar, cooking oil, tea, and other essentials.

• Ready-to-eat food was provided to families unable to cook due to loss of kitchens and utensils.

Medical Support:

• Mobile Health Units were deployed in Buner and Shangla.

• Doctors and paramedics provided treatment for waterborne diseases, injuries, and infections caused by floodwaters.

• Essential medicines were distributed free of cost.

Non-Food Items (NFIs):

• Distribution of blankets, mats, mosquito nets, hygiene kits, and clothing to families who lost their belongings.

Clean Water Access:

• Installation of emergency water filtration units in areas where water sources were contaminated.

• Safe drinking water provided through tankers.

Impact of Relief Efforts

• 7,500+ families received immediate food and medical assistance.

• 3,000+ patients treated through mobile health services.

• 500+ shelters provided for displaced families.

• 15,000+ people gained access to clean drinking water.

These efforts were made possible through the generous support of our donors and international partners, including Turkish INGOs working alongside Alkhidmat.

Challenges Faced

• Damaged roads and bridges limited access to remote valleys.

• Continuous rainfall increased the risk of further landslides.

• Shortage of emergency supplies due to high demand.

Despite these challenges, Alkhidmat teams stayed on the ground, ensuring life-saving aid reached those in dire need.

Next Steps

Alkhidmat is now planning to move towards rehabilitation and recovery, including:

• Rebuilding damaged homes and community infrastructure.

• Providing psychosocial support to affected families.

• Restoring livelihoods through seeds, livestock, and vocational training.

• Long-term WASH interventions to ensure access to clean water.

Over the past 8 days, our dedicated teams have worked around the clock in challenging conditions to provide life-saving assistance. Thanks to your generous contributions, we have reached over 150,000 individuals with emergency relief, food supplies, medical aid, and rescue services.

Impact Highlights (First 8 Days)

• Total People Reached: 150,000+

• Food Relief:

  • 737 Food Packs (each feeding a family of 5–7 for up to a week)

  • 10,000 Hot Meals distributed to displaced families

• Medical Assistance:

  • 50 Medical Camps established in remote flood-affected regions

  • 5 Mobile Health Units deployed for on-the-go medical support

  • 15 Ambulances operating for emergency transport and first aid

• Rescue Operations:

  • 3 Trained Disaster Management Teams actively working in flooded areas to evacuate and assist victims

Current Needs & Ongoing Efforts

While the initial response has been impactful, thousands of families remain vulnerable. Many have lost their homes, livelihoods, and access to clean water and health services. Our next phase of intervention includes:

• Continued food distribution and clean drinking water access

• Hygiene kits and sanitation facilities to prevent disease outbreaks

• Psychological support for trauma-affected individuals

• Long-term rehabilitation and rebuilding of homes and schools
