Our project will enable Safisana to reach a greater number of small holder farmers making sure that they are trained using Safisana's organic fertilizer so that they increase their yields and their household incomes. Working with more farmers - more female farmers - increasing their agri yields, addressing food security challenges - improving soil fertility for sustainable organic farming.
Farmers in Ghana are struggling with declining soil fertility caused by nutrient depletion, erosion, low organic matter, and poor land management. This is all then intensified by climate change and limited access to quality fertilizers. This means that farmers only experience low yields and are unable to secure good income from their crops. Without addressing the problems of poor soil, they are caught within a never ending cycle affecting their income, food nutrition and employment prospects.
Our fertilizer, Asase Gyefo, is called Saviour of the Land because it feeds the soil structure and fertility with its high organic matter and micronutrients. Safisana will work with smallholder farmer groups to run demonstration farms, organise field visits to successful organic farms, and promote farmer-to-farmer learning. We will provide training workshops, materials, and on-farm advisory support to help farmers adopt organic fertilizer effectively.
Safisana supports low-income and women farmers in Ashaiman with organic fertilizer produced through its circular waste-to-value model. Each bag means that both faecal and organic waste is being safely collected, treated, and transformed into renewable energy and soil-enriching fertilizer, strengthening long-term food security, improving livelihoods, and protecting over 87,000 people annually from harmful waste exposure.
