BEYOND BOXING YOUTH AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTION DURATION: 15 WEEKS
BUDGET REQUESTED- negotiating with KENYA TRANSITION INITIATIVE

INTRODUCTION
Pumwani and Eastleigh neighbourhoods of Kamukuji constituency have a high concentration of young people most of whom are jobless or engage in casual labour. This means that most young people spend their time idling around, a situation that often leads them to engage in negative and sometimes illegal behaviours and practices such as crime and usage of drugs and other substance abuse.
Boxing is a discipline based sport, A sport whose qualities are concentrated in individual focus, mental alertness and body conditioning. The sport assists in building self-esteem and confidence besides assisting in building positive and inter-dependent relations especially since club members train with each other. Besides this Boxing has the potential of becoming an employer either directly as a paid up boxer or through boxing related income such as gate collection. Income from boxing can be invested further to build capital to develop other income generating activities. Being a spectator sport Boxing attracts audiences, providing a platform where important developmental issues can be openly discussed and solutions suggested.
BEYOND BOXING is a 63 member group (55 Male, 8 Female). , and they have developed their capacity and focus to include mentorship for out of school and in school youth besides engaging on community awareness on important developmental issues.
