Individuals with Disabilities Have Big Challenges

This quarter we were able to house 3 more individuals with disabilities. With reduced housing stock housing people who are very low income is a challenge. With the average individual on Social Security Disability making between $730 to $1200 a month finding affordable housing that allows them to live and be able to afford food and other necessary items. The housing that we build and maintain for these individuals allows them to pay no more than 30% of their income for housing which in this day and age is near impossible. We also work with getting these individuals "mainstream vouchers" which helps to reduce their rent even further. Along with reduced rents we connect these disabled clients to necessary services such as Food Banks, Transportation, Health Care and Mental Health Services. Your donations do make a difference in helping these individuals live a normal and productive lives. Thank you so much for your help!

Building our next home

It's October and the price of "affordable housing" continues to rise. The average person who is disabled makes between $794-$1400 per month on SSDI & SS and the average rent starts at $1200 per month for a 1 bedroom apartment, so you can understand why it is so important to continue to build and rehabilitate housing for Seniors and disabled individuals as most of these individuals are becoming homeless and or are homeless.
All of our available affordable rental units are full with seniors and disabled individuals and the need has increased 2-fold for affordable rental units. We will start building another SRO (Single Room Occupancy Dwelling) home this month, but in the meantime let's measure what we have done so far with our donations. Your continued support is used to insure that the individuals we house have safe affordable housing. The last house we finished earlier this year we have housed 4 disabled individuals but in addition they have been connected with services such as in-home care givers, food and medical care which was not available to them when they were living on the street. What we do saves lives and your support helps us take the most vulnerable individuals and give them a second chance at life. Thank you so much for helping us help them to make a difference!

Changing Lives One at a Time!

So the house is finished and we are getting ready to start building another house, but we did not think of were the little things that can help severely disabled clients in the homes that were already built. We live in a Hurricane area of the United States and if the power goes down the clients that we have housed can be left without power for days and even weeks. This quarter we invested in a generator that is built in and will turn on as soon as the power goes off because these clients will not be able to seek shelter anywhere else due to their Chronic Health issues and without electricity for that length of time could cause be a major issue and could be the difference between life or death. The houses are built like a bomb shelter with concrete walls, impact windows and doors but without power these clients health and life is at risk. Generators of this magnitude without mentioning any brand names cost over $14,000 ($14,480 installed to be exact). So your donations this quarter went to purchase one generator for one house of severely disabled individuals.
