Project Update on Rice Production for Livelihood

By Genelyn de Peralta | Business Development Associate

Dear Donors and Partners,

On behalf of Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), I sincerely thank you for immediately responding to our call for assistance when we, in the Philippines, were struck by one of the most devastating disasters that ever hit the country.

Without your unwavering support, we could not have reached our countrymen whose lives and livelihood were changed by the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

The funds we raised through our Global Giving page were pooled with funds from other sources. As of March 31, we have received $ 1,998,461.67 through your generosity and of other individual donors, corporations, and funding agencies. Of this amount, $ 1,847,177.39 came from corporate donors; $ 33,552.11 from individual donors like you; and $ 117,732.16 from funding agencies and PBSP’s existing relief funds.

Of the $ 2 million received, we have spent 36% or $ 728,696.54, which benefitted 23,485 families, and 7,066 students and teachers on various relief and early recovery efforts on relief, livelihood, shelter, education and health.

To make your donations more sustainable and help revive the livelihood of those affected by Typhoon Yolanda, PBSP has distributed motorized boats, fishing gears, planting materials and rice seedlings for farmers, carried out cash for work strategies, and funded fishing projects in Iloilo, Biliran, and Cebu. Enclosed is a summary of our efforts with your support and our plans for the remaining funds.

Again, THANK YOU for your generosity and confidence in PBSP and for being instrumental in rebuilding lives and communities. Truly, the power of many is more strategic in achieving a sustainable and lasting impact.

Yours sincerely,
