Summary

Dulaari is a community-led initiative advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for women and adolescent girls in Nepal. Inspired by the story of a young mother who gained confidence through training, Dulaari empowers rural and marginalized communities with knowledge, menstrual hygiene access, and safe spaces for dialogue. Through education, advocacy, and culturally rooted tools, it builds agency, dignity, and equality for women and girls.

Challenge

In Nepal, women and girls, especially in rural and marginalized communities, face limited access to accurate SRHR information and services due to stigma, entrenched gender norms, and weak implementation of laws. Menstruation remains taboo, with harmful practices like chhaupadi, lack of affordable hygiene products, and unsafe abortion practices worsening health and social exclusion. Without targeted interventions, these barriers will continue to perpetuate poor health outcomes and gender

Solution

Dulaari addresses SRHR challenges by combining education, access, and advocacy. The culturally contextual Dulaari Handbook equips women and girls with accurate knowledge, while community-led workshops create safe spaces to challenge stigma. Affordable menstrual hygiene kits improve health and school attendance. By building a network of SRHR defenders, the project ensures sustained awareness, agency, and community-driven change for women and girls.

Long-Term Impact

In the long term, Dulaari envisions empowered women and girls who are confident in exercising their SRHR, leading to healthier families, reduced gender-based inequalities, and stronger community resilience. By normalizing conversations around menstruation and reproductive health, it will break taboos for future generations. The creation of community-based SRHR defenders ensures sustainability, fostering systemic change where rights are respected, voices are heard, and opportunities are equitable
