This project aims to build a school for early age children in Kabiria, a very poor area of Nairobi, Kenya. This school will provide care, education and food to more than 150 children in the area, who do not have access to education. HAI has been operating in the region for 8 years, in a rented small house of approximately 20m2, without a proper structure, and where it serves more than 40 children. Our goal is to provide a better and bigger structure to the children, and increase our capacity.
In our current facilities, we don't have the appropriate space and structure to adequately care for children. We lack classrooms, a kitchen and even proper bathrooms for a correct children's hygiene, what we believe are essential for their development. Additionally, today we can accommodate up to 40 children when the community shows us that it needs much more support. To address this situation and make a more significant impact through education, we are determined to build a bigger school.
This project will help the community in several ways: 1) Assisting more children, taking them off the streets, where they currently spend their days 2) Providing a free school, inexistent in the region, with childcare, but also with a good education, structure, food, and hygiene 3) Opening new job positions in the region, as we will need more teachers and administrative staff
This school will be a legacy for the region and a change in perspectives for at least 150 children, who do not have a place to stay and to study for free. Children will have a place that welcomes them, where they can learn and eat properly. Furthermore, we will work with local people, opening up more jobs and opportunities. 08/29/2024: We are increasing the requested funding amount to cover the expenses we are having to also bring drinking water and renewable electricity to the school (solar).
