Hai Africa is an organization directly impacting more than 80 families at Kabiria community, South Nairobi, Kenya. We believe in the power of education, love giving and proper nutrition, and those are our no-fee school's basis. Kids from 3 to 7 years old are fully supported by our local staff: 3 teachers educated at the Waldorf Teacher Preparation Program. As we thrive on innovation and creating opportunities , we also started a local craft business along with our hardworking "mamas".
Kenya is a country without free education system and harmed with high ratings of 30% school dropout (according to Kenya National Bureau of Statistics). Another big issue lies on malnutrition. The last US Aid research reveals that 1.82 million children are suffering from chronic malnutrition, of a total of the 7 million Kenyan under-5 population.
Our main concern is to give the children we support free and humanized education based on Waldorf pedagogy. While the kids spend 7 hours in our school, they have the chance to experience an education that inspires love sharing and environmental connection. We also provides 3 healthy and balanced meals for the children and staff. We also work towards helping the kids that max out Hai Center age to get proper education at a local elementary school.
Hai has committed to each of our students to support them emotionally and financially until they complete at least high school. We also started a craft company that employees 15 local women, most of them related to our students. To fomment the local economy every product and service we use on our daily basis come from the community. Furthermore, Hai funds the higher education of our teachers so they can be able to teach and adapt Waldorf pedagogy to Kenyan reality.
