Thrilled by the new partnership with Echo

Renovation of the baking house ongoing
Renovation of the baking house ongoing

Lilis Community Bakery is a community-led project training 60 youth and women in affordable baking skills, creating jobs and supplying bread to local schools. Renovation of the cake house is under way to create a bigger baking and training space, and we need to finish it before the school holidays, when student numbers will rise sharply.

Demand for training is growing, but our current room is too small. The renovation will give us a larger space for baking and classes.
The holidays are the deadline. Students will arrive in larger numbers during the break. Without the new space, young people will be turned away.
Equipment is still needed. We need a commercial oven, mixer, trays, pans and tools to replace old charcoal stoves and allow several trainees to work at once.

Funding is not yet raised. Our GlobalGiving goal is €2,179. At the time of this report the full amount is still needed, with about 5 months remaining on the campaign.

New Opportunity: Partnership with Echo
Echo, a travel platform for locally owned, purpose-driven experiences in Uganda, has chosen to work with us. Travellers will be able to book experiences at Lilis Oven, such as baking with our trainees and meeting the community. Echo charges low platform fees, lets guests book directly, and ranks listings on quality, not paid placement. Bookings bring income now and help us complete the renovation.

Expected Impact
60 youth and women trained in baking, hygiene and business skills
8 young apprentice bakers hired
Affordable bread supplied to 3 local schools
In two years: a self-sustaining, community-run bakery with 200+ graduates and 500+ school children fed

Our Request
Please help us share this project with your supporters. Every gift now helps us finish the cake house and open our doors to students this holiday season.
