We did it!
Despite some difficulties, we managed to organize the first Youth Volunteer Film Festival in a local cinema.
Before organizing the Festival, we asked young people what they thought the film should be called and we got some interesting suggestions.
After long discussions, the name won "Wolontariat - o tym sie MOVIE" (we tried to translate it, but it's a word game, quite difficult to translate. They use the word MOVIE as a film at the same time phonetic MOVIE means talking, so we could translate it in a free way as "Volunteerism - let's talk about it").
They were very impressed with the international dimension of the festival, as we invited some international guests to be on the Jury (a journalist from Poland and a fan of movies from Italy).
Groups of young volunteers presented the results of their social actions and then, we all had a chance to see the films made by youth on the big screen. We gathered over 150 young active people in the local cimena. It was a wonderful day, full of laughter and pride!
We hope that the Festival will become a regular, annual event promoting youth activities in our region.
But it’s not the end of our journey with young volunteers. We invited them to take part in the first Oxford interschool debates in our region. Oxford debates have the rules to be followed, that discipline young people, and teach the difficult art of debating, controlling emotions, and verifying information. In the era of ubiquitous fake news, such a skill is extremely valuable. Follow our activities, as we’re starting soon with raising money to organize the first Oxford interschool debates in our region. Please keep your fingers crossed!
