You may have heard that the rains have been encouraging in sub-Saharan Africa this year. This should mean that people will have enough to eat in the coming months; but things are never that simple. In Darfur, where inflation continues to be at horrific levels, most people were unable to save enough seed to plant. Another problem is that, those that had saved millet, would not have had time for their harvest to reach fruition.
At Kids for Kids we are dreading receiving the reports from the new villages, which will apply for us to adopt them next year, of what has happened to their children during 2014. The over whelming silence of the world on Darfur continues to minimise our chances of finding new support. There are still hundreds of villagers that need seed, since our initial application, more people have asked our project leader in Darfur for help. They have no income and have already eaten all that they have. They couldn't save seed for planting this autumn, they needed it all last year. There simply isn't enough.
There is good news though, your help has secured the crop for many families - the lucky ones will harvest well next year and their children might just stand a chance. Thank you for your support but please continue to find out about Darfur, and Kids for Kids, and tell others about these forgotten people too.
