This funding will train 20 Youth & 20 Women to make handicrafts, buy materials needed for the training, facilitate trainer and establish a handcrafts center along the highway for tourists. This project is introducing an informal practical vocational training service to create employment for youth & an income for women in poor communities in Uganda, 60% of youths in their productive years, lack direction which has contributed greatly in affecting the development &economic output of Uganda.
Young people have struggled with life and they need a hand that can support them through vocational training that can equip them with constructive Knowledge and reliable Skills. A large proportion of young people in Uganda have received little or no formal schooling and most of them are unemployed. They are being denied even the most basic, most practical vocational education and their chances of ever finding a paid job are very slim
This project will reduce the problem of unemployment by 10% among the youth in the sub county. The project will establish a crafts center where all products will be collected and sold from, this crafts center will employ over 50 Youth and Women as all of them will be directly involved in making and selling crafts, some of the crafts to be made are Flower vessels, door mats, bedroom rugs, ceramics, beads, bungles, among others
This sector (crafts) uses existing skills and locally available raw materials.Inputs required can easily be provided and product adaptation is less expensive than investing in energy, machinery or technology
