The Story of Emihle's First Term at School

Because of you, I am able to study at Queenstown Girls High School.

Because of you, I am the first member of my family to study at a good high school,

Because of you, I can be anything I want to be when I'm older.

Thank you for supporting my education.

My first term was hectic.  Our first week was orientation week, and it made me feel sad, and uncomfortable.  We had to do the triple change (we had to change our clothes three times in one day), and the grade twelves were so harsh that I did not feel well.  My friend Lisa, who is also from African Angels, was also with me in her first term at Queens.

We had to do a poster with all the hostel grade twelve names,  but we didn't know all their names, because they only told us their first names.  We had to wake them up after we were done, but we didn't because we were tired.  We worked together, but we only finished at 2am.  The grade twelves came to wake us up at 4:00 am - they were so angry when they came to wake us up.   I really missed my parents at that time.

After the orientation week my life at Queens improved and I settled,  I do swimming, my favourite stroke is backstroke, and it has been great.  I also wanted to do netball but I didn't know where you register, and so I missed out.  Next time, I'll ask a teacher so I get to do the sport I want.

I like maths, and Life Orientation.  The subjects that I really strugle with Economic Management Science, and Geography.  I really enjoy schooling at Queens because it give me more time to study, and focus without anyone making noise - it's quiet in the prep room.   Our prep time is from 6:30-7:45pm then from 8:00-9:00pm.Our lights out is at 10:00pm.

Thank you for joining Ann and her family in donating to support my education.

I will write to you every term.  We have four terms of school a year.

Hoping you and your family are safe and healthy.

Love from Emihle

Note from the African Angels Chair.

Since South Africa entered the national lockdown at the end of March 2020, Emihle has been doing her best to complete her school work remotely, at home, via whatsapp.  Emihle does not have access to the African Angels computer hub, as she lives in a neighbouring village, however she has persisted, and has kept up with her school work.  As South Africa heads to its covid peak over the next few weeks we are uncertain when Emihle will be returning to school, however we will keep you updated.  Emihle's first report was really very good considering the huge change she experienced.  We are looking forward to her future results as she settles into Queenstown.

It is with a truly grateful heart we thank Ann, Harlan and you, their friends and family, for driving Emihle's campaign, that saw her able to attend Queenstown Girls High School, and reach her full potential ,so her future will be different.
