Poor rural children are behind the proverbial eight ball in South Africa today. 63% of youth are unemployed. Children without resources are relegated to substandard education. Poor education means a reduced chance or no chance of future employment, and so the cycle of poverty continues. Since 2012 African Angels has provided quality primary school education for South African children from poor backgrounds. Invest in this project and you are investing in nation building through education.
Children who are poor in South Africa can only access the State school system, which in most instances is under resourced, over crowded, has high teacher absenteeism and teachers who struggle to understand the curriculum they are teaching. This means children fail to get a solid basic foundation education and their future educational, and employment prospects are severely limited. With a 63% youth unemployment rate a fundamental and urgent change in access to quality schooling is needed.
Since 2012 African Angels has provided a quality primary school a quality education by exceptional teachers for children who will innovate, and be the hope for our future. African Angels educates children who have limited resources and live in situations that are unimaginable to most of us, yet they are determined to grow into educated, productive and responsible citizens.
Every year we will see up to 20 poor and disadvantaged children graduate into high school from African Angels. Children who can succeed at high school, and access university opportunities. Children who can, in turn, get jobs, support their family, growing into good South African citizens. By the year 2023 we expect to see over 41% of families from our local community have a child attending African Angels. This means we will see an entire community change - through education.
