Summary

Palani Hills is with enrichment of flora fauna and high environment. Mountain ecosystem and forest ecosystem are existing with biodiversity. But now destruction of environment by illegal tree felling, mining and development work is being done. It is degrading and risk of the environment. We motivate local tribe community, pressure Govt functionary and take legal action by court. It is giving good impact and so tree felling and environment degrading activities are being prevented.

Challenge

Tree felling is done by unlawful gang. Rose wood, Teak, Sandal wood and other important trees are daily cut and sold. These are causing environment degradation, herbal and animal destruction. 100 of vegetation and animals are as endangered condition. Rain and water resources are stopped and so thousand of acres land in hills bed and cultivation are affected. Tribe people looses their life and livelihoods MFP (minor forest produces). Ecosystem and biodiversity are under severe threatening.

Solution

Motivation of tribe people on their right and livelihood MFP (minor forest produces) through forest conservation is done. Cases are filed under Tribe and forest dwellers conservation act 2006, The Forest act 1882 and SC/ST prevention of atrocities act 2014 in court and other relevant court that forest department and other functionary are taking action under the pressure of the court orders. Further local tribe are struggling with the tree fellers and informing to police and forest people.

Long-Term Impact

Tribe people, Important tree and animal will get survival with hills and forest ecosystem. Biodiversity conservation will be assured. court cases and verdicts will give long term impact in tree felling and environment degrading. sustainable practice in forest conservation will be promoted.
