In early December 2018 the team and friends of WRC laced up our trainers once again to take on both the 10k and 21k distances of the Angkor Wat Half Marathon in order to raise funds for Women's Resource Center.
The day itself was not too hot - which was a relief as the Cambodian sun can be brutal! We were so excited to run around the beautiful temples and have a fun day together. We also had how important the race was in our minds as many people had sponsored the team and we were determined to succeed in our part to support the women we work with here in Cambodia. Everyone got round and most of us were pleased with our time. It was nice to relax and cool down afterward though!!
Late November and early December 2018 were part of our 16 day Eliminating Violence Against Women campaign and the run was an integral part of this. In addition, we organised or took part in sessions on meditation, yoga, peace talks, workshops, solidarity football, a wine, cheese and charcuterie fundraising event and shared important information through our many media channels in order to spread the message that violence against women is not ok and that WRC is here to help those who need our support. The campaign was a great success with many people attending the events and the Angkor Wat Half Marathon day was a special part of this.
In total the running event raised $3,104.55 and we would like to thank all of you who donated. The first quarter of the year can be difficult time for WRC in terms of funds and we are so pleased to be going into 2019 in a stronger position than we entered 2018. We are confident we can deliver our workshops and counselling services that are so vital and are in high demand. Thank you!
Thank you so much for supporting our runners and ultimately supporting the vulnerable women and families.
We wish you a happy, healthy and successful 2019!
