On 2 December our Exec Director, Vanthat, and a team of 8 friends will take part in the Angkor Wat Half Marathon / 10k. We are also delighted to be joined by seasoned runners, Pierre and Minka, once again. The funds raised will support Women and Girls in Siem Reap through counselling and life-skills workshops, alongside school and community outreach initiatives and gender equality campaigns. Please support generously and do contact the team if you would like to run with them!
In Cambodia: Over half of women have experienced physical abuse before age 18, 25% of women have experienced domestic violence, 1/3 of men perpetrate physical or sexual abuse toward their partner, more than half of children are physically abused, 60% of women have not attended secondary school, 1 in 8 women become mothers by age 19, and women are an economic disadvantage in terms of wages and spousal economic abuse. WRC needs additional funds to continue our vital empowering work.
Our runners are taking part in the Angkor Wat Half Marathon and 10km as a proactive way to raise funds to support these women. Please sponsor them to help WRC to continue providing women and girls in Cambodia with emotional support, referral services, campaigns, local ambassadors and informal education so they can be empowered to make informed decisions about their lives.
