Being able to celebrate the holidays with a delicious dinner is something unimaginable to those living in extreme poverty, but over the last few years we have worked hard to change this for the children of Bienvenido. It's one of the many ways we offer hope! This year we've invited 450 children to join us for a traditional holiday meal which includes: roasted pork and chicken, rice, pigeon peas, potato salad, pastelon (Dominican lasagna), apples, grapes, refreshments, and dessert.
The majority of individuals living in Bienvenido face extreme poverty every day. Although poverty is devestating for all, it's often the children who suffer most. The things they worry about are those that even adults shouldn't have to. Serving Christmas dinner to the children of Bienvenido gives them a night away from this reality. It grants them the opportunity to imagine a life without poverty. It offers hope for something different in their future!
We will offer this hope, and a night away from the stress of poverty, by providing a full traditional Dominican holiday dinner for 450 youth in Bienvenido.
Providing Christmas dinner to the youth in Bienvenido helps demonstrate our care and commitment to these children and this community. It aids in the continual building of trust, and is a tangible way for us to offer hope. These things serve to expand our reach, and therefore our ability to impact even more lives.
