This micro project will facilitate monitoring of a sanitary pad project in Uganda, an intensive sanitary pad project was carried out in Mpigi and Kasese Districts covering over 600 people, boys, girls, men and women, all learn t ho to sew their own pads, our project wants to monitor the impact and find out the successes and challenges of the programme. The menstruation management and pad making training helped to address the multifaceted issues surrounding menstruation in Uganda
During the training, schools were called upon to put up safe places where girls can change pads from, guardians were also asked to put up safe places for girls, boys were sensitized not to bully girls when they are in menstruation as men were also asked to support girls and women during their periods, unfortunately there is not enough funding on our side to organize Focus Group Discussions and school monitoring programme
This project will organize focus group discussions and will sample and visit 10 schools and households to establish whether they have put up safe places for girls to change pads, whether men are now supportive to their girls during menstruation, whether boys support girls during menstruation, whether cultural norms that stigmatize girls are still valued in communities, whether girls nolonger drop out of school due to lack of sanitary pads, whether communities are now able to make and sell pads .
Mountains of Hope believes that in order to make sustainable change the entire community must be knowledgeable and involved in menstruation management. It is not just the role of the girl or woman to care for herself while on her period. It is also the responsibility of her siblings, parents, teachers, and government leaders at all levels to make sure she has the resources to remain safe, clean, and healthy while on her period.
