Dear Friend of Guitars and Ukes in the Classroom,
Thanks to your generosity this past Spring, music making built a bridge of caring and kindness when GITC teachers and students had to leave their classrooms behind and go home. Between March 13 when schools closed and June 9, when school ended for the year, your donation made a real difference for hundreds of people. As you know, educators and kids faced huge technical challenges trying to switch to online learning as issues of access to tech and economic ability to afford Internet services kept many from being able to continue learning. For those who could get online, the 2D environment was strange, remote and hard to use. But when it counts the most, music matters. You personally gave GITC the support we needed to help get music making into the hands of teachers who led the way and their students. According to those who received the gifts of instruments, teaching artistry and their own after school PD classes with GITC, music has proven to be the greatest tool for bringing children together and creating something positive during this difficult time.
Because of your support, we were able to continue providing online classes each week so homebound students and their teachers could connect, smile and blend their voices in song while in isolation. We have even been able to add two hours a week of Fun Music Time online for students to keep the music going this summer!
Last week, one very special TK-K teacher, Ms. Francesca shared her experience guiding learning with her very young students so you could have a look at what your generosity helped create.. She explained how excited and engaged her students become when she led with songs and ukuleles. Her interview is featured here. “I can see it literally waking up their brains. I can see it shining out of their eyes, like laser beams!” You make this possible! We are so grateful to you for allowing us to continue the positive impact we are making with our online programs. We hope you will join us to continue bringing joy and resilience to learning as we carry on through the crucial months ahead supporting education during COVID-19. On July 15, we will open a new opportunity to make this difference on Bonus Matching Day, right here on GlobalGiving.org!
With you in service for all students,
Jess
