This project will keep free music training for all interested teachers and students "alive" during this pandemic. Teaching artists can remain employed, too, offering over a dozen classes each week! Please help us provide a safe place for out-of-school students and their teachers to learn, connect and create during this time of risk and isolation. Your support will result in musical access for students and teachers who have never had a chance to learn, and sustain those who have already begun.
With schools closed and govt leaders predicting no return to classrooms until fall, students are suddenly at home without structure, peers, teacher support or arts instruction. Some districts have online classes, but this requires supervision and a conducive learning environment. With parents being stressed, much loss of employment, and heightened anxiety, students and teachers can be helped by getting free access to GITC music training where they'll get responsive instruction and team learning!
Guitars and Ukes in the Classroom will begin hosting free group music trainings on 2 platforms so any Tk-12 student or teacher can learn to make music collaboratively during this time while sheltering in place. Our faculty trainers are learning to teach online, and classes will be open to all. With 51% of students living in poverty, and families scraping by, these classes will keep music alive for many who need free access to participate. Your gift will fund instruction, supplies & instruments!
This work instills life-long love of learning & success and music! It imparts a permanent solution because teachers train and keep playing for years at school. All children are reached, including those in Title 1 and public school classrooms- GITC creates precious musical opportunities for everyone. This approach makes classrooms happier places, enables students to bring up their grades and test scores, schools get stronger, and teachers acquire an inspiring new way to do their best!
