Thanks for helping us get electricity here!

Dear friends and supporters,

We're so happy to write to thank you for helping us bring electrical wiring into our new youth training centre.  Thanks to you, we have now complete all the electrical work in our centre. We are just waiting for the Kenya Power Company to install a power line.  This is expected to be done within the next two weeks and then we'll be ready to reopen the computer training lab to youth.

Here's how we spent your funds:

  • Wiring the the building = 10,000 Ksh
  • Kenya power line transfer and installation cost = 11,500 Ksh
  • Kenya Power Company account deposit = 5,000 Ksh
  • Electrical materials and fittings = 14,650 Ksh
  • Total: Ksh: 41,150 or $478US
We asked Lilian, Zulfa and Mercy, girls between 15 and 17, why this centre is important to them. They told us that SYSC gives them an opportunity to overcome the challenges they face through insufficient education and training.  More importantly, they said, SYSC helps them avoid antisocial and unproductive activites, like prostitution.

Because you donated to this project with such generosity, we used the funds raised beyond our $500 fundraising goal to have the computers that the electricity will power serviced, build a fence around the compound to prevent theft of our equipment, and plant flowers and trees before the rain arrive. We've attached some photos so you can see the results you have helped us to achieve.
Thank you very much for giving so generously to help our small organization. You are helping us make a big difference in the lives of youth here.
Sincerely,
Joe Mwai
