This project will help to lift 160 at-risk youth and young women from Nyeri town - Kenya's biggest slum - out of poverty. It will provide free vocational skills training and HIV/AIDS education, counseling and testing. Tailoring and welding/metal work programs, together with employment and business development counseling, will provide employable skills in high-demand sectors and help address associated problems like drug abuse and prostitution (due to women lacking alternative income) project reportread updates from the field
Installing Electricity for Computer Training

We're raising these funds so we can install electrical wiring in our new facility. We'll use it to power our 5 computers to offer computer skills training to youth. In these slums, many youth do not have the chance to finish school or get basic education, let alone computer skills needed of today's workforce. We have U.S.-based university students arriving this summer to offer computer and music training. We need to complete the wiring before they arrive. project reportread updates from the field
Build A Toilet for Slum Youth Centre

We support at-risk youth from the slums of Nyeri county by running a drop-in centre that provides refuge from the streets and programs to help them escape poverty. We just rebuilt our centre in stone to make it safe and stable, but are now required by the new local government to add a two-stall public toilet. This will provide a hygienic solution to a community where basic sanitation is lacking and it is common for 20-30 people to share a pit latrine. project reportread updates from the field
