Access to education is one of the fundamental rights of every child which should be delivered in a conductive and safe learning environment free from violence. School children lack capacity to realize that their rights have been infringed on, neither do they have knowledge on where to report violence inflicted on them by their teachers and friends to seek justice. This project will help them set up school and community clubs and empower them to report cased related to Gender Based Violence
In the 2-sub-counties in Mpigi District which we work with, there is wide spread of school related gender based violence against children in both primary and secondary schools. Our mini baseline states at least on every 10 children, 7 of them have either experienced corporal punishment or bullying at schools with girls being affected more than boys. The children, expressed that on average 6 out of 10 girls are physically, emotionally and sexually abused at school by male & female teachers
A Rights Based Approach (RBA) called ''REFLECT'' will be adopted to empower school children as "Rights holders" with support from the general community to voice out their concerns in an organised way.
