Challenge

Up to 200 children, ranging from the very first months of their life to 18 years of age, are treated for cancer in Ghana each year. Families affected by this illness have to face psychological and financial challenges - one parent sacrifices their employment, in order to stay with their child at the hospital. Families lack finances for treatment supplies, uncompensated medicine, little information is provided to them about their child's cancer.

Solution

Each child, being treated for cancer, will receive medicine which cannot be compensated by the state, as well as other articles, such as diapers, creams and ointments for skincare, and other supplies needed to treat lacerations caused by the disease.

Long-Term Impact

All efforts will be put forth towards making the treatment process as comfortable as is possible, given this difficult situation. Thus, with a comfortable environment, the process to recovery will become faster and more efficient for each patient. The financial hardships will be lessened for each family.
