Our Tailoring Training Center in Sierra Leone does not have adequate sewing machines for all trainees. One of the trainees, Adama, is a single mother. Adama is eager to become a proficient tailor. Access to a new sewing machine will help improve her skills. She looks forward to graduating from the school and earning an income from this new skill.
Students, like Adama, at the tailoring school are not able to learn effectively because the sewing machines are very old and break down frequently. This impedes learning. Because there is an inadequate number of sewing machines, the 50 trainees often have to wait for their turn - to get access to a machine. The limited number of machines has also restricted the number of trainees that we can accept into the program and empower.
This microproject will provide the funds needed for purchasing a new sewing machine for Adama. The new sewing machine will enable better training so that Adama and the other trainees will gain a higher level of tailoring skills. The provision of this vital tool will boost their learning abilities.
Students will be empowered to move from poverty and unemployment to self-sufficiency. These machines will contribute to youth development in skills for self-reliance and entrepreneurship. They will help create employment opportunities for disadvantaged youths and ladies.
