Thank you very much for the generous support you sent towards the establishment of backyard gardens for the 50 mothers in Uganda. Your money enabled us train these mothers on establishment and management of vegetable gardens, Mountains of Hope facilitated ANSWERID an organization that trains farmer’s on establishment of backyard gardens in Mpigi District.
These mothers were also trained on how to make their own composite manure to enable them fertilize the land before transplanting to the gardens. Although the project has facilitated the mothers with fertilizers for the start, they will be able to make their own in future, this will ensure continuity of the project even without our direct support. The money has enabled us buy a spray pump, watering cans, fertilizers, vegetable seeds such as carrots, Leek, water Mellon, cabbage and many more, we also paid the facilitators as well as provide meals to trainees during the training.
Mothers have started on the establishment of a mother nursery bed to enable them have a joint nursery bed with variety of vegetables, these will be transplanted to individual mothers homes in a months’ time. This will ensure children are healthy as they will have variety of vegetables and fruits, their household income will also improve as they will be able to sell some to the markets and buy the necessary items at home.
The moms have also elected a leadership team which will be responsible for the management and monitoring of the project.
Baby Tonny who used to be malnourished is now healthy after mothers received training on good feeding mechanisms, now how will he look loke if he adds in vegetables in his diet?
