Summary

The project will set up vegetable back yard kitchen gardens among 50 trained mothers.GlobalGiving donors facilitated training of 50 mothers on good feeding to children under 5 years, these will be the target beneficiaries. All the beneficiaries have extra space in their houses which will be easily used to make kitchen gardens at the courtyard. Vegetables are important sources of many nutrients, including potassium, dietary fiber, folic acid, vitamin A, and vitamin C which many kids are lacking.

Challenge

90% of the households have at least a malnourished child in our community, and the very households do not have good feeding mechanisms, 05% of the visited households had vegetable gardens, the number is still very low, and majority either reported that they did not know how to make them or did not have money to set up one. Mothers have been trained on good feeding mechanism but there must be continuity in the programme by provision of vegetable seeds to them.

Solution

Mothers will be able to feed their children with variety of vegetables like Leeks, Lettuce, carrots, cucumber, cabbage, eggplant, etc. A nutritionist recommended choosing a variety of vegetables, both raw and cooked including coloured orange, red, dark green and yellow vegetables including allium vegetables such as onions and garlic

Long-Term Impact

The 50 mothers that have been trained on good feeding mechanisms will benefit, the beneficiaries will be able to give seeds and vegetables to their neighbors too and have more for sale to the near by markets for money to enable them take care of their children
