Battered American mothers fleeing violence with their children in foreign countries often have no place to go, may not speak the local language and are afraid. Mostly they escape with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. They need a safe place to stay for a few days while we devise a longer term safety plan. This project will provide 30 nights of basic food and shelter for battered mothers and their children escaping violence in a foreign country.
Imagine you are an American mother escaping out of your home at night in a foreign country with your children because you are in fear of your life. Your husband just threatened to kill you, you have nothing more than the clothes on your back, you don't speak the local language and have no idea where to go. You just need to get your terrified children to a safe place where your children can sleep while you safety plan your next steps with an AODVC case manager.
With this project we will be able to provide immediate, emergency shelter and food for battered American mothers fleeing violence in foreign countries. By providing immediate basic needs, mothers can focus on safety planning knowing their children are safe, fed and comfortable, away from the violence.
Each year we provide battered American women and children with information and services necessary to enable them to live their lives without violence. Since 2001 we have helped over 3000 women plus their children free themselves from abuse.
